The book consists of a collection of journal entries and letters, which gives vivid insight into the emotional struggles of an artistic soul thrust into the mystical, rich, bizarre country that is India. The subtitle — An India Journey: A Lyrical Memoir — captures the essence of Susan's book. In writing that is often closer to poetry, she describes her life, her loves, her dreams and her difficulties in this land so different from her home on Canada’s west coast. I was captivated by southern India, and was enthralled, for example, as Susan watched the courtship dance of two cobras. The heat, humidity and soft culture shone through. And the book ended on a pleasant note as Susan’s talent in textile art was recognized.

What an enthralling journey and experience Susan brings us on. Due to the format, the book is in places fragmented. But the gaps create a mystery and a desire to want to know more. I couldn’t put it down.

"What an amazing book."

In a special place in southern India people from all over the planet gather in an effort to form a new kind of community with the hope of success that will ripple through the world to create lasting change for the better. In prose alive with the sights, scents and sounds of the place, Tait, a visitor turned accidental resident, relates her individual story in real time, through the pages of her diary, of a soul challenged to grow by intent and by chance. A love story, a mystery and travelogue, Tait’s writing has an individual flair and flavour that makes has you walking beside her throughout the book.
